Where do cosmic rays come from?

The Earth is under constant bombardment of cosmic raysshowers of high-energy particles that blast at our planet from all directions at nearly the speed of light.

While this may sound like the precursor to a sci-fi alien invasion, it’s a real phenomenon that scientists have known about for more than a century. Despite their dramatic description, cosmic rays are actually quite common — they pass through our planet so regularly that during a normal night’s sleep, a person will have about a million cosmic rays traveling through their body, according to as University of Birmingham in the United Kingdom
